Jesse Matthews is a San Diego native, 2nd generation Mexican-American and graduate of Christian High School, El Cajon, CA. As a former walk-on at SDSU, Jesse earned a Full Scholarship after his Freshman year just before the team’s New Mexico Bowl appearance in 2019.
Jesse has accumulated numerous team, conference, and national honors, awards, recognitions and nominations during his college playing career. Most recently in the 2021 College Bowl season, Jesse was named to the ESPN All- Bowl Team wherein he finished second to only Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba in total explosive receptions (15 or more yards) among all pass-catchers with six in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl. He was ultra-strong at the catch point, as he caught all four of his contested targets. Of all the pass-catchers who received at least 10 targets in a bowl, Matthews joined Smith-Njigba as the only other player who generated a perfect 158.3 passer rating when targeted.
When he’s not on the field, Jesse’s an avid golfer, huge NBA fan, will school anyone in Madden and loves to spend time supporting youth football camps.
